Intensive Course May 2018 Dates

Course 1  – Tuesday 29th  May to Friday 1st June

The Benefits of an Intensive Swimming Course

The intensive swimming courses are scheduled to operate during the school holidays.  This factor will have several benefits to children’s overall performance for reasons explained below.

Lessons are delivered during day time hours when children have more energy and this will be channelled effectively to develop swimming skills.

Due to a shorter interval between each lesson children are more likely to retain the information acquired from the previous lessons. This should allow for learning at a faster rate as children can pick up from the last lesson much quicker in comparison to weekly lessons.

Intensive courses are a useful tool to improve competence levels of a particular skill that needs a little extra attention as the skill can be practised and repeatedly over the course over the week.

Price list for intensive courses; group, two to one, and one to one lessons scheduled for May Half Term Tuesday 29th May to Friday 1st June

Group –  £30.00 usually £32.00

One to  one – £60.00 usually £72.00

Two to one – £75 usually £92.00

The courses will operate between 9.30 and 3pm and the duration of each lesson is 30 minutes over four days.  Once we have a good indication of numbers and abilities we will contact you with a course time.

We hope that you may like to join us for the intensive course programme.  If you are interested in finding out more information or would like a place reserving please fill in our contact form above and we will be happy to answer any questions.

About Us – Liverpool Swimming Academy

Subscribe to our mailing list

Established in 2o03 Liverpool Swimming Academy began as a small swim school based in the Formby area formerly known as ‘Formby Swim school’.  As our reputation grew over the years we reached out across the Liverpool area and began teaching in several locations.  Due to our success, we rebranded and are now known as Liverpool Swimming Academy.  In December 2016 we were presented with the rare opportunity to acquire our own private swimming pool.  We have now based most our lessons at the academy pool and also have taken steps to further develop Liverpool Swimming Academy

Our longevity in the swimming business means we are in the fortunate postion to draw upon the accumulated knowledge and vast experience and we have been extremely busy putting this to good use.  Over the past 12 months using Swim England framework the academy has devised six specialised swimming programmes.  The swimming progammes are all delivered at our private pool and we are now confident we offer something for everyone.

Staying motivated for the final Stages of the National Plan.

It has been noted by Swim England (formerly ASA) for sometime that children start to fall away during the final couple of stages of the national plan.  Here at Liverpool Swimming Academy we want to encourage every child to complete the final stages of the national plan feeling as motivated as when they first started swimming.

To help us achieve this we have called on the expertise of Brain Stevens   and we are delighted to welcome him to our team.  Brian’s involvement in competitive swimming dates back thirty-six years.  His role within four swimming clubs ranges from swimmer, assistant coach, to Head Coach.

Brian Stevens quote “One of my core beliefs for swimming both competitively and for leisure is that good stroke technique is essential.”

Here at Liverpool Swimming Academy we are confident that under the  guidance of Brian we can motivate the swimmers during the final stages of the National Plan and prepare them for club level swimming where Brian is already significantly involved in one of the local clubs.

The Journey Through Swim England National Plan Awards

The National Plan Stages 1 to 5 succeed the Duckling Awards and I can Awards.  The framework of the National plan is designed to develop aquatic skills as opposed to teaching children to swim up and down length after length compounding bad technique.

Each stage has a set number of outcomes to be achieved and as the children progress through the stages a tool box of aquatic skills is acquired.  It is this tool box of aquatic skills that is essential part of swimming development as it provides the individual with key skills to draw from to become proficient in all four strokes.  Additionally, it also keeps interest levels engaged as children are given the opportunity to experiment with different skills as they continually revisit, develop and refine.

This point can be explained in more detail by using an example.  In the example below, an aquatic skill (objective) ‘push and glide’ taken from the National Plan curriculum is used to demonstrate the point.

Aquatic Skill – Push and glide

‘Push and Glide’ Stage 1

Stage 1 – “push and glide in a horizontal position to or from the wall” buoyancy aids can be used to assist.

‘Push and Glide’ Stage 6

Stage 6 – “sink push off on side from the wall, glide, kick and rotate into Front Crawl.”

The aquatic skill (objective) remains the same ‘push and glide’ but it has been developed and refined from Stage 1 ‘basic idea of movement’ through to Stage 6 ‘a highly complex skill!’   We believe this teaching style should be implemented when teaching a range of aquatic skills to both reinforce and refine the skills over a period of time.

Planning and Assessment

As every child is unique we use ongoing assessment as our preferred model to monitor children’s progress and achievements.  This method allows for flexibility and a specific skill can be adapted as necessary to cater for specific individual needs.  Regular assessment is ongoing so that achievements can be recorded and appropriate certificates issued at the correct time.  Formative assessment also assists with setting individual targets, again reinforcing each child’s needs.
